Most anesthesia administrators and executives understand finances, staffing models, hospital and payer contracting, compensation models, benefit plans, flexible schedules and more. Yet we could not do what we do successfully without strong physician partners to inject a different perspective and point out nuances that we do not experience on a day-to-day basis.
Likewise, most physician leaders function more effectively with the help of an administrative colleague. Physicians without a financial background may find it overwhelming to sort through the sheer volume of financial data available to determine what is most important to track, and against which benchmarks. Whether your billing operation is in-house or outsourced, it is important for somebody with an understanding of finances to be looking at high-level reports to verify that practice productivity, staffing and revenue are being optimized.
