ASA Monitor 8 2019, Vol.83, 46-48.
Below is the summary of a project that was fostered through the ASA Committee on Professional Diversity’s Mentoring Program. As an intern, I (Dr. Chauhan) was inspired to apply to the program after talking with an anesthesia resident at the ASA annual meeting who, through the program, was active in designing policy and promoting positive change in his hospital. After applying, I sought out my now-mentor Gary Loyd, M.D., whose research in perioperative medicine and patient education lined up well with my interests. The ASA Mentoring Program has thus enabled me to develop a mentor/mentee relationship and create ongoing research projects with Dr. Loyd. The program has further given me exposure to someone who is incredibly active in ASA on a leadership level and who is guiding me to develop similar leadership skills.
