During ANESTHESIOLOGY®2018 in San Francisco, the Chinese American Society of Anesthesiology (CASA) organized a panel discussion on Saturday, October 13. ASA, Chinese Society of Anesthesiology (CSA) and CASA leadership had a face-to-face discussion on the challenging issues facing anesthesia care in the U.S. and China. The panelists included Drs. James D. Grant (ASA President), Linda J. Mason (ASA President-Elect), Beverly K. Philip (ASA Vice President), Selina Long (former president of the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists), Jin Liu (former CSA President), Yuguang Huang (CSA President-Elect), Hongfei Feng (CASA President) and Hong Wang (CASA President-Elect). Dr. Henry Liu (former CASA president) moderated the discussion. The following challenging issues were discussed: the opioid crisis in the U.S., drug shortages in anesthetic care, CRNA-related issues and severe shortages of anesthesia providers in China.
