No matter what role we play in the delivery of anesthesia care, we are being asked to make sweeping changes in the way we practice, approach patients and interact with each other. Poor patient outcomes, failure to achieve basic efficiency/workflow metrics that affect profitability and toxic workplace cultures are driving the demand for change.1  But as human beings, we do not face change well.2  In the health care environment, we accept change even less well. Unfortunately, 70 percent of these change initiatives fail,3  producing no lasting return on the investment for the time, money and effort. In this brief space, we will look at the most common asks of us in today’s perioperative environment and highlight what can make the difference between success and failure.
