Best wishes for health and success in 2018!
2017 marked another year of milestones and transformation for ASA. Ten years ago, in 2007, ASA leadership undertook the Organizational Improvement Initiative, which sought to introduce to the Society best practices in association operations. This included improvements in management, business procedures and member support as well as strengthening of ASA program areas with a focus on advocacy and education.
As we celebrate the new year, it’s natural to want to look back at our progress in 2017 and to anticipate new success in 2018. Since I joined ASA as your CEO almost five years ago, I’ve often used this column to share insights with you about our organizational strategy and direction. Last year, we introduced new digital capabilities (including Anesthesia SimSTAT and an improved website), expanded Anesthesia Quality Institute and Perioperative Surgical Home initiatives, enhanced our federal and state advocacy efforts, and continued to enrich the ANESTHESIOLOGY annual meeting, PRACTICE MANAGEMENT conference and LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE. Indeed, ASA’s hard-working officers, board members, committee members and staff have accomplished much that we can feel proud of.
