Jerome Adams, M.D., was nominated as Surgeon General by President Donald J. Trump in late June and sworn in to the position in September. News of the nomination and confirmation was featured nationally. In an Indianapolis Star piece, Ryan Nagy, M.D., spoke highly of Dr. Adams, whom he met while completing his residency: “You knew you had a good doctor there with you, training you. He’d try to make the evening as pleasant as possible.” The two became active together in ASA’s lobbying efforts and over the years have shared concerns about standards for safe drugs, medication shortages, and the opioid epidemic and chronic pain.
