The journal Anesthesiology and Duke Anesthesiology will co-host a Twitter-augmented journal club during the week of May 8, 2016. All are invited to attend and participate in this exciting event. Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Twitter and the Duke Anesthesiology Twitter Journal Club webpage. Please follow tweets from @ALNAnesthesia and @Duke_Anesthesia for updates.
This effort is a direct response to the growing prevalence of social media in health care education.1  Many health care professionals and students participate on various social media platforms to maintain or grow their personal and professional communities. One social media site, Twitter, has been used to augment medical education in several specialties, including anesthesiology.2  Some benefits of Twitter include: 1) easy adoption; 2) access to experts, peers and patients across the globe; 3) 24/7 connectivity on a mobile platform; 4) creation of virtual, education-based communities using hashtags; and 5) the ability to identify key information using retweets.2
