On January 26th, 2015, a unique collaboration between Twin City Ambulance and the Department of Anesthesiology of the University at Buffalo began. The workshop, Difficult Airway Management for the Paramedic, was conducted by Dr. Terrence Burns and CA-2 Resident, Dr. Matthias Grube.
The program opened with a historical overview of Emergency Medical Services in the prehospital setting. For many years, funeral directors provided ambulance services. Chest compression-only methods of resuscitation were in vogue and fell to the wayside (now resurrected as current best practice). In 1972, all of that changed with the NBC hit series Emergency, an action-adventure depicting the work of Los Angeles Paramedics.
