The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) is proud to be able to make the ASA membership aware of two excellent educational opportunities. These opportunities appeal to all physician anesthesiologists who care for patients with advanced cardiovascular disease and are undergoing all types of perioperative procedures. Please visit our website at to learn more about SCA.
The SCA will host the 18th Annual Comprehensive Review and Update of Perioperative Echo (Echo Week 2015) in Atlanta beginning Monday, March 23, 2015 and ending Friday, March 27. This comprehensive review course also updates participants on the latest imaging techniques and decision-making dilemmas in perioperative echocardiography. Highly accomplished faculty will deliver essential topics in a well-organized and easy-to-follow format. The first two days of the meeting start with a comprehensive review of the fundamental concepts of echocardiography, which are then applied in a case-based, small-group format. The always-popular porcine heart dissection incorporates 2-D and 3-D imaging with surgical decision-making. ASA and SCA members preparing for the NBE Basic Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography certification process, and those re-certifying for Advanced Perioperative Echocardiography will find these two activities extremely beneficial. Since 3-D echocardiography and tissue Doppler can be challenging, there is a dedicated afternoon and evening of instruction in small groups so these principles can be better understood and immediately applied to practice. The final two days are spent in interactive discussions on imaging and surgical dilemmas with experts in cardiac anesthesia, cardiology and cardiac surgery in a panel discussion format. In addition, there are optional problem-based learning discussions and a laptop computer workshop for interested attendees. This meeting is the leading resource for all practitioners in perioperative medicine who care for patients with cardiovascular disease using echocardiography. ASA and SCA members preparing for the NBE Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography certification or recertification process will find the entire week extremely beneficial.
