I believe that being a FAER Resident Scholar has put me on a path toward future involvement in the ASA and beyond. I encourage all residents to get involved in educational and research opportunities so that they might get a chance to share these experiences.
As a CA-2 resident at the University of Virginia I had the opportunity to attend the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2012 annual meeting as a FAER Resident Scholar. It was an honor to be chosen to represent UVA at this meeting.
FAER is a foundation dedicated to furthering the practice of anesthesia education and research through grants and funding as well as programs such as the Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship and the Resident Scholar Program. While I certainly have a strong interest in anesthesia education, I was not introduced to the FAER program until I was chosen to be a scholar. I was surprised at how far-reaching and inclusive this foundation is. The sheer amount of anesthesia research and education opportunities funded by FAER is very impressive.
