Medical knowledge is growing at an exponential rate, and physicians are expected to maintain a knowledge level that includes the most recent medical advances.1  Advances in technology have allowed both trainees and physicians in practice to quickly and asynchronously access up-to-date medical knowledge with just a few clicks of a button. Asynchronous learning is defined as individualized interactive online learning resources that allow learners to use educational materials at their own pace. It is becoming preferred among learners and can be a more effective method of education than traditional lectures.2 -5  Asynchronous modalities include iTunes U, YouTube, Twitter, Coursera, blogs, Khan Academy, MedEdPortal, and Anesthesia Toolbox, to name a few. Although online educational resources continue to grow in number, it is unclear as to who or what entity is responsible for monitoring the reliability and validity of the content.
