Which statement about trigeminal neuralgia is most likely true?
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) occurs twice as often in women than in men and is related to increasing age. TN in a patient younger than 40 years should prompt consideration of alternative diagnoses. The incidence is estimated to be between four and 13 people per 100,000 per year. The right side of the face is reported to be affected 50 percent to 100 percent more frequently than the left side. It has been hypothesized that this may be due to the smaller foramen rotundum and foramen ovale on the right side, contributing to a secondary entrapment of V2  and V3 .
