The Ad Hoc Committee on Small to Medium Group Practices hosted its first pre-conference at PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 2018 in New Orleans. Titled “Bigger Is Not Always Better: Tools for the Viability of Small to Medium Group Practices,” it was a first-of-its-kind pre-conference dedicated to the issues of smaller groups. It was well received, with a sellout of 100 participants.
Physician anesthesiologists comprised two-thirds of the attendees with the remainder being mostly practice administrators. The majority of attendees described their frustration with the unique challenges faced by small to medium group practices with limited resources. The lectures presented were developed based on feedback obtained during PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 2017. The topics covered in this pre-conference included group governance, MACRA/MIPS, contract negotiation, benchmarking and results of our 2017 small to medium group practice survey.
