Updated approaches to pain management to reduce the use of opioids is an important area where anesthesiologists need to provide leadership for perioperative surgical teams. In response, ASA developed an online CME video program focusing on multimodal approaches to pain management. It has had a striking impact on physicians and is leading to changes in practice.
At its conclusion in October 2017, the pain manage-ment program attracted 3,458 participants, with 99 percent expressing satisfaction with the content and the presentation format, based on survey responses.1  Survey data also reported a 72 percent average gain in knowledge, with 83 percent of respondents considering incorporating program information into their practices.1
