ASA Monitor 09 2017, Vol.81, 36-37.
This scenario demonstrates the ideal outcome of continuing professional development for patient care in an acute event and evidence for the impact of anesthesia maintenance of competency in patient safety. It also highlights the fact that more of our surgical and medical colleagues are using ASA online resources to maintain their competence in patient safety. This article will update the activities of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Editorial Board (APSEB) and new alliances in the pursuit of enhanced patient safety.
Our specialty has long been identified as a leader in patient safety, and ASA, through APSEB, has seen that the membership has the quality resources necessary to provide the safest patient care. Since its creation in 2007, the aim of the APSEB continues to be to provide quality online courses in patient safety for the ASA membership to maintain competency for MOCA Part II. In 2015, the American Board of Medical Specialties determined that diplomates from all specialties should demonstrate knowledge of safety science and principles.
