APSF/ASA Announce Endowed Research Awards

The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) is pleased to announce the 2017 APSF/ASA Endowed Research Award and the APSF/ASA President’s Research Award. These awards were announced at the annual meeting of the APSF Board of Directors in October 2016 for initiation in January 2017. APSF/ASA named grants are funded up to a maximum of $150,000 per grant.
The recipient of the 2017 APSF/ASA Endowed Research Award was Michael A. Mazzeffi, M.D., Department of Anesthesia, University of Maryland School of Medicine, for a study titled “High-flow nasal cannula oxygen in patients having anesthesia for endoscopy.”
The recipient of the 2017 APSF/ASA President’s Research Award was Seth T. Herway, M.D., Department of Anesthesia, University of California School of Medicine, San Diego, for a study titled “An insidious cause of postoperative weakness: peripheral stores of neuromuscular blocking agents caused by unrecognized extravasation when injected distal to a NIBP cuff.”
