Norig “Skip” Ellison, M.D., 1996 ASA President, passed away on October 21, 2016. An ardent champion of the specialty and of ASA, his presidential tenure was marked by a persistent focus on membership recruitment and retention, for urging members toward involvement and continuous education, and for a prescient determination that anesthesiologists embrace roles as peri-operative leaders.

An Admirable Physician
Dr Ellison was a great physician and an admirable person. I was a resident at PENN in the late '70s. He taught me a lot, for which I am still grateful.
