Did you know the initiative to help patients curb or cease smoking before surgery came to your practice by research that began with FAER support?
It has often been stated that it takes 17 years for medical discoveries to reach clinical practice. Although this differs based on the type of research, the time lag in translating new medical knowledge from bench to bedside can be daunting. It can be as daunting for those who actively participate in research as it can be for those who invest in it. But the potential for transformation, for saving lives and improving health by generating new knowledge, can build a strong desire that overcomes any dismay.
