For the last three years, the ASA PRACTICE MANAGEMENT conference has offered a “Resident Track” that provides foundational concepts in practice management for residents and fellows. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) states that practice management should be taught as part of anesthesiology residency training, but this education varies significantly among programs. Eighty-six residents and fellows from 26 states attended PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 2016 in San Diego. Attendees interacted with experts in the field and were introduced to the basic topics of practice management. This was a full-day program that included 12 lectures followed by designated interactive question-and-answer periods. At the conclusion of the day, residents joined the main conference attendees for roundtable discussions on various practice management topics as well as resident-specific topics such as a hands-on session evaluating curricula vitae.
