Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS) Market Update
ASA Monitor 10 2014, Vol.78, 38-40.
ASA Monitor 10 2014, Vol.78, 38-40.
This is the fifth installment of our yearly Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS) Market Update. As previously published,1 -4  we will report on numbers of AIMS sold to hospitals (not surgical centers) and segregated into vendor types. This year there are some differences to our reported data. First, there have been some changes to the vendor landscape. One of the previous vendors, Acuitec, was acquired by a company called MedHost, who declined to participate in the survey. Second, Merge, who was reported on last year, also declined to participate in the survey. Finally, the company previously doing business as Picis has had a name change to Optum. We have a new category as well. This year we are including vendors that sell products that are not typical AIMS but may compete in the same market. These are documentation tools working with electronic pens or tablets that may not interface to patient monitors. Consequently, they create some elements of the anesthesia record but generally do not have automated vital sign data collection. Table I lists the vendors who participated in this year’s survey.
