As ASA Secretary, I am pleased to share with you the latest enhancements to key member benefits. ASA committees and staff have been hard at work this past year laying the groundwork for several new or enhanced initiatives. The ASA 2015-17 Strategic Plan reinforces these initiatives and provides a wealth of new ideas aimed at increasing the value of membership and ASA’s mission in education and advocacy.
The ASA Department of Membership has worked hard at improving resources and service to the component societies. The Annual Leadership Summit in August 2014 was an outstanding success and will be repeated in August 2015 immediately following the Board of Directors meeting. For the first time, the Medical Student Component will have a track of programming at the ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2015 annual meeting. Included in this track is a session led by a certified financial planner on managing student loans. The ASA Resident Component programming will include an industry recruiter providing key insights about the interviewing and hiring process for new graduates. The ever-popular Medical Student Meet & Greet will include fellowship training programs in addition to residency training programs. The Uniformed Services Society of Anesthesiologists (USSA) is bringing its meeting back in conjunction with the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2015 annual meeting. ASA staff assisted the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA) with strategic planning during TSA’s February 2015 board meeting. Component member data, roster cleanup and reporting services have been provided to numerous components.
