From January 8-10, ASA President John Abenstein, M.S.E.E., M.D. and First Vice President Jeffrey Plagenhoef, M.D. attended the American Medical Association’s (AMA’s) 2015 State Legislative Strategy Conference in New Orleans. The conference provides the opportunity for key volunteer physicians and staff from state and specialty medical associations from across the nation to learn about legislative issues of importance to medicine. Representatives from ASA attend the conference each year.
During the conference, national and state experts briefed attendees on issues and subjects, including:

“The speakers and content of this meeting were extra-ordinary,” Dr. Abenstein said of the conference. “As more and more of our patient safety efforts are considered by state lawmakers, we must be engaged and ensure the involvement of our state medical and specialty societies in these initiatives.”
