ASA Publications Adapting to Your Needs

ASA continues to grow and change to meet the ever-evolving needs of its dynamic membership. To me, one of the most important accomplishments of 2014 was the addition of several staff members who helped to round out ASA’s executive leadership team, especially in regard to our publications, communications and public relations efforts.
Ed Dellert, M.B.A. joined ASA last year as Chief Learning Officer, heading up the newly created Learning Division, which is composed of the Education Department and the also-newly created Publications and Digital Content (PDC) Department. One of Ed’s first and most important tasks was to find someone who could not only oversee ASA’s current excellent publications, but also guide the PDC Department into an increasingly digital age. In fall 2014, George Kendall was appointed PDC Director, after having spent six years as managing editor of the journal Anesthesiology. Also last year, ASA moved Theresa Hill into the position of Public Relations Director. Theresa and her staff work closely with the PDC in ASA’s efforts to disseminate information to the public that shows how important your role is in health care. Through these efforts, the perception of physician anesthesiologists and what you do is slowly but surely changing in the minds of the public and policymakers.
