ASA Monitor 01 2015, Vol.79, 6-7.
This has been an important year for ASA. A new three-year strategic plan was developed, building on a foundation of scenario planning. We identified eight strategic focus areas: Membership, Advocacy, Education, Patient Safety and Quality, Scientific Discovery, Developing Care Models, Partnerships, and Charitable Activities. The strategic plan is ASA’s roadmap for 2015 and beyond. Most importantly, ASA’s strategic plan is focused on our most important activity – patient care. All aspects of our strategic plan were developed with the goal of improving the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of physician-led anesthesia care.
The Committee on Membership is working to improve the value of ASA membership by expanding member benefits and opportunities for engagement, improving the membership renewal process for individual members and group practices, and increased collaboration with subspecialty societies. ASA membership enables physician anesthesiologists to stay on the leading edge of the profession – and not joining ASA will become a poor business decision. Our goal is that all U.S. physician anesthesiologists become ASA members. We must communicate the importance of ASA membership to our patients, our colleagues and society. Through ASA membership, we receive new knowledge and tools to better care for our patients and advance our profession.
