As ASA Secretary, I am pleased to share with you that at the end of the calendar year 2013, membership in the Society had surpassed 52,000! A special thank you must go to Celeste G. Kirschner, CAE, Perioperative Surgical Home Executive (and former ASA Director of Membership); Rachel Rusch, Membership Development Manager; the Committee on Membership; and the other ASA staff who worked so diligently to make this happen. You, the members, are the lifeblood of the Society, and your continued support of the growth of the Society is to be commended.
We have some exciting new projects to report that will make joining and remaining a member easier. A pilot project with the following component societies – Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Uniformed Services Society of Anesthesiologists, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming – now allows one dues statement not only for national membership, but also for component society membership. The dues are collected by ASA and then component dues are distributed to that society. This is being done for a nominal fee by ASA. It allows one billing statement to be paid by the member for dues in both societies and also allows ASA and the component society to reconcile their membership lists in a much easier fashion. We hope to expand this “one stop shop” service as requested by other component societies in the future.
