The FAER-Helrich Research Lecture recognizes out-standing scholarship by a scientist. It is part of an effort to encourage young physician anesthesiologists to consider careers in research and teaching, which are crucial if anesthesiology is to maintain its reputation as a medical specialty continuously striving for excellence in patient care. Each year at the ASA annual meeting, the FAER-Helrich Research Lecture is presented as part of the Celebration of Research.
The 14th Annual FAER-Helrich Research Lecturer is Emery N. Brown, M.D., Ph.D., Warren M. Zapol Professor of Anaesthesia, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH); the Edward Hood Taplin Professor of Medical Engineering, and professor of computational neuroscience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an anesthesiologist at MGH.
